Algenon had spent much of his life searching. Searching for meaning, for purpose, for the answer to a question that echoed in his mind since childhood. Why am I here? He sought wisdom in books, in conversations with mentors, in moments of silent reflection. He explored faith, philosophy, and reason, hoping that one of them would provide the clarity he longed for. Yet, no matter how much knowledge he acquired, the answer remained just out of reach.
One day, after years of searching, Algenon found himself deep in nature, walking along a winding path that led to a river. Exhausted, he sat by the water’s edge, watching the current move effortlessly over rocks and around bends. The river was in perfect balance with itself. It did not hesitate. It did not resist. It simply flowed.
Nearby, an old fisherman sat in a small wooden boat, mending his net. He observed Algenon for a moment before speaking. You seem troubled, my friend.
Algenon sighed, running a hand over his head. I have spent my life searching for my purpose. I have studied science, religion, and philosophy, hoping that one of them would reveal the truth. But they each seem incomplete, as if the full answer is always just beyond my grasp.
The fisherman smiled and pointed to the river. Do you see how it moves?
Algenon nodded. It flows without resistance.
Exactly, the fisherman said. The river is in alignment with itself. Its movement is not random. It follows a natural order, a balance of forces—gravity, pressure, time—all working together in harmony. It does not struggle against these forces; it moves with them. And in doing so, it fulfills its purpose, nourishing the land, shaping the earth, and sustaining life. It does not question. It simply is.
Algenon sat quietly, absorbing the words. He had always thought of purpose as something external, something to be found. But what if purpose was not a separate thing, but rather a state of alignment? What if the reason he felt lost was because his mind, body, and spirit were not moving in harmony?
In that moment, he realized that just as the river aligned with the forces of nature, he needed to align himself with the forces within him. Science, religion, and spirituality were not separate paths, but interconnected truths. Science explained the structure of the universe, religion provided moral grounding, and spirituality allowed him to experience the divine personally. Each held a piece of the whole, and together, they formed a complete understanding of truth.
The true voice of God was not outside of him. It was within, always present, waiting for him to listen. It did not shout to be heard because it did not need to compete with the world. It was in the silence, in the flow of nature, in the alignment of mind, body, and spirit.
How does one find alignment? Algenon asked, looking at the fisherman.
The old man smiled. By listening, not just with your ears, but with your entire being. The river does not resist its path; it flows with purpose. You must do the same. Align your mind with knowledge, your body with action, and your spirit with truth. When these are in harmony, you will no longer need to search. You will simply be.
Algenon closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He let go of the need to chase an answer. He let go of the fear that he was not enough. He let go of the doubt that clouded his soul. He was not separate from the truth. He was part of it.
He turned to the fisherman and smiled. I understand now.
The old man nodded knowingly. Good. Now go live it.
And so, Algenon stood, feeling lighter than he had in years. He did not need to search anymore. Like the river, all he had to do was flow—with mind, body, and spirit as one.
